#RamadanRuminations Day 1: If Ramadan Was A Person

I don’t think there is any feeling I love more than the 5 minutes before the call to the evening prayer in quiet elation and anticipation to welcome Ramadan. If Ramadan was a person, she is that beautiful elderly aunty who hugs you every single time, whose warmth fills every inch of your heart, whose smile gets brighter and warmer with each passing year.

She is that motherly woman who lets you fall asleep on her shoulder on your late night bus ride back from tarawih and tadarrus sessions. She is that pious lady who is already praying Qiyam in deep love & adoration of her Lord as you rub the sleep from your eyes at 437am after 4 snoozes. When you break your fast, she is the first to pass you a cup to drink, her eyes glistening, her lips praying for you.

When the end of the month comes around, you ask her to please stick around! But she smiles her warm smile and says “I am always with you and I will come back”. And you can feel her hug even after she has waved goodbye and for months after, sometimes you wake up and still smell her.

Ramadan, welcome welcome WELCOME!

Wrote this in 2016 but this moment is still my most favourite one ever ever ever!

May Allah bless us in this month, accept all our deeds, allow us to weep and taste the sweetness in conversing with Him, grant us strength and ikhlas and taqwa and happiness and peace in prayer, in communal iftar, in silent sahur, in tranquil tahajjud, in beautiful companionship and delight in fasting and lightness in charity and joyyyyyy in every moment of Ramadan!

MY GOD, RAMADAN HOW I MISSED YOU!
